Tunica Concerts are Never in Short Supply

One of my favorite things about casino resort towns is that there is never a shortage of outstanding entertainment to be found!  These casino hotels draw amazing numbers of people and have concert halls that can hold all of them, so of course the biggest names in music will want to make an appearance on occasion, right?

For instance, The Gold Strike Casino and Hotel will host Randy Travis on April 10th.  Randy Travis is a winner of multiple awards for country and gospel music, and has been considered one of the top names in country music for well over a decade.

On April 17th, Harrah’s Casino and Hotel will host Heart, one of the hardest rocking girl bands of all time.  After some serious success in the late 1970’s and a massive comeback in the late 1980’s, the girls of Heart still draw amazing loyal crowds, and they still know how to do things vocally that no human being should ever be able to do!

The Gold Strike presents Chubby Checker on April 24th, and everyone knows the guy who made a serious hit out of The Twist.  He’s one of the fathers of R&B, and will be considered a legend for many years to come.

Is there any bigger name in music than The Beach Boys?  My young heart gets excited about seeing these guys on stage again, and The Gold Strike will make it possible on May 29th.  Grab tickets soon, for everyone will want a chance to rock out to some serious beach music that night!

There’s also a chance to see The Four Tops and The Temptations on the same night in the same place!  The Gold Strike hosts these legendary singers on October 16th.  These are just a few that managed to get me excited, but they may not be what you’re looking for.  Be sure to check the schedule before planning your trip!

More than Slot Machines

When you think of Tunica, Mississippi, you likely think immediately of slot machines, blackjack, and cocktail servers.  There is nothing wrong with planning a trip that centers around the fun that can be had in a casino, but don’t miss out on all of the other exciting things that Tunica has to offer.

For instance, did you know that Tunica is actually gaining a reputation for excellent golfing facilities?  The Tunica National Golf and Tennis club has a championship course, as well as a golf academy and tournaments.  The River Bend Links and the Links at Cottonwoods are also championship courses, where you can while away a sunny afternoon with good friends.

There are also some serious pampering possibilities with state-of-the-art spa facilities.  In addition to some amazing aesthetic and massage services, the fitness centers are top notch.  You can find endless relaxation at All About You in the Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, Bellissimo in Harrah’s Casino and Hotel, and Golden Reflections Spa at the Gold Strike Hotel and Casino.

For the shopper, Tunica has an endless supply of stores and boutiques.  The Casino Factory Shoppes is an outlet mall and shopping center that offers high fashion at discount prices.  The Tunica Resorts will offer no end of high end shopping, as well as collectibles and gifts.  Whatever you’re looking for, you’ll be able to find it in Tunica.

If you’re not excited by gaming and shopping, you’ll probably find the outdoor activities in Tunica much more to your liking.  There are beautiful parks and nature trails throughout the town and surrounding area.  There are many places that are perfect for fishing or hunting, or just relaxing in the out of doors with nature.  No matter what you’re looking for in your family vacation, you’ll find something to do in Tunica.

Excitement Comes with Spring and the Rivergate Festival

Every year, the city of Tunica spills out into the streets to welcome spring with the Rivergate Festival.  This year, the festival will be held on April 16th and 17th, with a special carnival night on Thursday, April 15th.  On that night, the purchase of a wristband will ensure limitless rides.

The Rivergate Festival is not just about the carnival rides, however.  Oh, no.  Downtown Tunica will be alive with exciting activities like rock climbing, train rides, and food like you wouldn’t believe.  The backyard barbecue will be available through the whole festival, but there will be blind judging on Saturday.  If you’re a car and motorcycle lover, then you’ll want to be present for the Studebaker Car Show and the Running of the HOGS, as well as the Rivergate Ragtop Rally, which is a show of convertibles of all makes and models.

For those that are of a creative mind, there will be arts and crafts available for display and sale.  These arts and crafts will be offered by local artisans, and over one hundred craft booths are expected this year.  For those the fancy themselves to be a superstar, there is a chance to sing your heart out for the title of Tunica Idol on Saturday evening.

The concert stages feature two amazing musical acts.  Crossin Dixon will open the festivities on Friday night at 8:00 PM, and Braden Gray will finish things up with a bang on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 PM.  You don’t want to miss out on these up and coming stars.

And of course, there is no way that you would want to miss the food.  The South is known for their amazing barbecue, but that’s not all that will be offered.  Vendors will bring you snack foods, as well as home-style meals.

Don’t Miss Delta Day

The Delta Day Festival in Tunica will be held on October 16, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  It’s free to anyone that wants to attend and is always held in the Rivergate Park in downtown Tunica.  The kids will find no end of things to do, including a petting zoo, face painting, a balloon artist, an inflatable moon bounce, a kiddie train, a children’s tractor pull contest, and a costume contest.

For the adults, there will be arts and crafts vendors, entertainment, and lots of food available for everyone.  A 5K run will be sponsored by the Humane Society, an antique car show will offer judging and prizes, and a display of antique tractors.  The Pioneer Village will feature a broom maker, a yarn spinner, and ice cream maker, and a gristmill with white and yellow corn meal.  Music will be playing nonstop, with local acts and DJs providing exciting songs that can only enhance the fun of the day.

Of course, the most amazing thing about the festival is the FOOD!  The South is renowned for some of the most amazing food around, and Delta Day will not disappoint.  You’ll be able to savor homemade barbecue, fresh Southern fried catfish, fried chicken, and everything else from corn dogs and French fries to ice cream and funnel cakes.

And don’t forget that the Main Street in Tunica is part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  There are some beautiful buildings with amazing histories that you can explore, as well as quaint antique stores and gift shops that will give you a sense of the past.  It feels almost like stepping back in time, and I dare you not to feel nostalgic as you explore the streets with family and watch those around you having fun.
